Our Story
Nestled in a garden, Gumnut Studio is a little creative space shaped by a love of handmade things and a thoughtful approach to reusing and repurposing. From shelving salvaged from a friend’s office to the little details that bring the studio together, elements of the past have found a new purpose here. Even our pottery firings make use of solar energy, reflecting our desire to make more considered choices wherever we can.
With its boutique feel and garden setting, Gumnut Studio offers a personal approach to pottery through small-group classes and hands-on workshops. Whether learning new techniques or exploring your own ideas, there’s room to experiment, embrace the unexpected and find joy in making with clay.
Our Mission
Is to share the joy of clay and inspire people to explore their creativity through hands-on pottery experiences. We aim to create a welcoming and supportive space where people can learn new skills, experiment with clay and discover the simple pleasure of making something with their own hands — without the pressure of getting everything just right.
Our Philosophy
We believe in the joy of making — in getting your hands dirty, trying something new and allowing yourself to play. Somewhere along the way, we can become so focused on getting things right that we forget the simple pleasure of creating.
Working with clay invites us to slow down, let go of expectations, embrace imperfections and enjoy the process of making with our hands. At Gumnut Studio, we celebrate the beauty of handmade things, the unexpected and the perfectly imperfect.
Meet the founder
Originally from the Czech Republic, Blanka lived in London for many years, where she discovered her love of ceramics. With a background in graphic design, she has always been drawn to creativity and bringing ideas to life. Pottery began as a way to step away from the computer and work with her hands, and what started as a hobby gradually grew into a passion. In London, she became part of a shared pottery studio, where she developed her practice and began selling her own ceramic pieces.
After moving to Australia, Blanka wanted to bring a long-held dream to life: a pottery studio nestled in a garden, where she could pursue her creative passions while making space for family life.
One of Blanka’s favourite things about pottery is seeing the joy people find in making something with their own hands. Through Gumnut Studio, she hopes to share her love of clay, encourage creativity and inspire others to discover the satisfaction of making something uniquely their own.
Alongside teaching at Gumnut Studio, Blanka continues to create and sell her own work under Blue Speckle Ceramics, exploring shapes, textures and the beauty of handmade objects. For her, pottery is an ongoing journey of curiosity, experimentation and finding joy in the process.
