Terms &

Conditions

Last updated: November 2026

Welcome to Gumnut Studio, a welcoming creative space where you can explore your creativity, learn new skills and share the joy of making with clay.

These Terms & Conditions explain how bookings, classes and workshops operate at Gumnut Studio. By making a booking, you agree to these terms. Please read them before completing your reservation.

1. Bookings & Payment

All pottery classes and workshops must be booked in advance through our website or an approved booking method.

  • Your booking is confirmed once payment has been received and a confirmation has been issued.

  • All prices are displayed in Australian dollars (AUD).

  • Class sizes are limited to maintain a supportive, small-group learning environment.

  • Please read the class description carefully before booking, including the session duration, materials provided and any additional costs.

  • Bookings are intended for the person named in the reservation. Transfers to another participant require prior approval from Gumnut Studio.

If you have questions about a class or workshop, please contact us before booking.

2. Cancellations, Changes & Refunds

We understand that plans can change. As our classes have limited places and require preparation, we ask that you consider your booking carefully.

Customer cancellations

For one-off workshops and classes, we request at least seven days' notice if you wish to cancel.

  • Cancellations made at least seven days before the scheduled session may be eligible for a transfer to another available session, subject to approval.

  • Cancellations made less than seven days before the session are generally non-refundable.

  • Failure to attend a booked session, arriving late or leaving early does not ordinarily entitle you to a refund or replacement session.

  • Transfers are subject to availability and are not guaranteed.

We do not generally offer refunds for change of mind, personal scheduling conflicts or inability to attend.

These conditions do not exclude any refund, cancellation or other remedy required under the Australian Consumer Law.

Changes made by Gumnut Studio

If Gumnut Studio needs to cancel or reschedule a class or workshop, we will notify affected participants as soon as reasonably possible.

Where appropriate, we will offer an alternative date or a refund in accordance with applicable law.

3. Small-Group Classes & Future Courses

Our small-group classes and workshops are designed to provide a welcoming environment where participants can develop their skills and enjoy working with clay.

Where a class involves multiple sessions, the booking conditions and cancellation policy applicable to that course will be provided at the time of booking.

For future multi-week courses, bookings may reserve a place for the entire course. Missed sessions may not be refundable or transferable, particularly where sessions build on skills introduced in earlier classes. Any applicable arrangements will be explained in the course description before booking.

Nothing in this section limits your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

4. Studio Conduct & Participation

To ensure everyone can enjoy their time at Gumnut Studio, participants agree to:

  • Arrive on time and follow the instructor's guidance.

  • Treat other participants, instructors, tools and equipment with care and respect.

  • Follow all safety instructions and use materials and equipment as directed.

  • Wear suitable clothing and closed-toe footwear where appropriate.

  • Keep work areas clean and follow instructions for cleaning tools and disposing of clay waste.

  • Avoid disruptive behaviour and attend without being under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances.

Gumnut Studio may ask a participant to stop an activity or leave if their behaviour creates a safety risk or seriously disrupts the class. Any refund or other remedy will be considered in accordance with applicable law.

5. Safety & Personal Responsibility

Pottery is a hands-on activity that can involve tools, wet floors, clay dust, glazes, heavy objects and hot equipment.

Participants must follow the instructor's safety instructions, use equipment responsibly and ask for assistance whenever they are unsure how to carry out an activity safely.

Please let us know in advance if you have accessibility requirements or other needs that may affect your participation, so we can discuss reasonable adjustments where possible.

Gumnut Studio will take reasonable steps to provide a safe environment and appropriate instruction. Participants are expected to take reasonable care of themselves and others.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

6. Clay, Glazing & Firing

Working with clay is a creative process, and every handmade piece is unique. Drying, glazing and kiln firing involve variables that cannot always be predicted or controlled.

Please be aware that:

  • Clay may shrink, crack, warp or break during drying or firing.

  • Glazes may produce variations in colour, texture, surface finish and appearance.

  • Some pieces may not survive the drying, glazing or firing process.

  • Certain pieces may be unsuitable for firing because of their construction, thickness, cracks or other technical issues.

  • Firing schedules and completion times may vary depending on drying conditions, workload and kiln availability.

We will handle your work with reasonable care and skill, but we cannot guarantee a particular artistic outcome or that every piece will survive the ceramic process.

If your piece is damaged, lost or cannot be fired, please contact us so we can discuss the circumstances and any appropriate next steps. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law remain unaffected.

7. Materials, Glazing & Additional Costs

Each workshop description will explain what is included in the price, such as clay, tools, glazing, firing and the number of finished pieces covered.

Additional materials, extra pieces, special glazing or other services may incur an additional charge. Any additional cost will be communicated before you agree to proceed.

Where glazing is completed by the instructor, the available glaze colours and finishes will be explained as part of the workshop information.

8. Finished Pottery & Collection

Your pottery needs time to dry, be glazed where applicable, and undergo firing before it is ready for collection. This process may take several weeks, and completion times can vary.

  • We will notify you when your work is ready for collection.

  • Finished pottery must be collected within one month of notification, unless an extension has been agreed with Gumnut Studio.

  • Collection must be arranged during agreed collection times.

  • If you cannot collect your work within this period, please contact us to arrange an extension.

  • If work remains uncollected, we will make reasonable attempts to contact you before deciding how to handle it.

We understand that each handmade piece has personal value. We will take reasonable care of finished work while it remains at the studio, but we cannot provide indefinite storage.

Any disposal or other handling of uncollected work will be undertaken in accordance with applicable law and with reasonable consideration for the circumstances.

9. Postage & Delivery

Where available, postage or delivery of finished pottery may be arranged at an additional cost.

Any delivery charges and arrangements will be confirmed before the service is booked.

Ceramics are fragile, and reasonable precautions will be taken when packing work for dispatch. If an item is damaged or lost during delivery, please contact us promptly so we can assess the circumstances and discuss the appropriate next steps. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

10. Gift Vouchers

If gift vouchers are offered, their value, applicable conditions and expiry date will be provided at the time of purchase.

Gift vouchers may be redeemed towards eligible classes and workshops, subject to availability. Where a booking costs more than the voucher value, the difference must be paid by the customer.

Gift vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash except where required by law. Vouchers will be issued and honoured in accordance with applicable Australian law, including minimum expiry requirements where applicable.

11. Illness & Attendance

To help maintain a healthy environment for everyone, please do not attend a class if you are experiencing symptoms of a contagious illness.

If you are unwell and cannot attend, please contact us as soon as possible. Requests for a transfer or other arrangement will be considered under the applicable cancellation policy.

12. Children & Animals

Gumnut Studio classes and workshops are currently intended for adults aged 18 and over.

Children may not attend adult classes as accompanying guests unless prior arrangements have been approved by the studio.

Animals are not permitted in the studio unless prior arrangements have been approved. This does not apply where an exception is required by law, including applicable assistance animal protections.

13. Photography & Creative Work

We love celebrating the creativity and individuality of the work made at Gumnut Studio.

We may photograph finished pottery and creative projects for use on our website, social media and promotional materials.

Our intention is to focus on the artwork rather than identifiable participants. We will seek permission before using photographs that identify a participant or clearly associate their identity with their work.

Participants retain ownership of the original artwork they create, subject to any separate agreement. Please respect the privacy of other participants and obtain their permission before photographing or sharing identifiable images of them.

14. Personal Belongings

Please take care of your personal belongings while visiting the studio.

Gumnut Studio will take reasonable care of the studio environment but is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal belongings except where responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Please let us know if you find an item that does not belong to you.

15. Privacy & Personal Information

Gumnut Studio collects personal information necessary to manage bookings, process payments, communicate with participants and provide classes and workshops.

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information and use it for the purposes for which it was collected, or for other purposes permitted by law.

Booking and payment services may be provided by third-party platforms, which may handle personal information in accordance with their own privacy policies.

You may contact us to enquire about the personal information we hold about you or request a correction, subject to applicable law.

16. Australian Consumer Law

Our classes and workshops are subject to the guarantees and protections provided by the Australian Consumer Law.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified.

Where a service fails to meet an applicable consumer guarantee, the remedies available will depend on the circumstances and the law.

Our cancellation, firing, collection and other studio policies operate alongside your statutory rights and do not replace them.

17. Changes to Classes & Terms

Gumnut Studio may update class details, schedules and these Terms & Conditions from time to time.

Any updates will be published on our website. Changes will not retrospectively remove rights or alter an existing booking agreement where doing so would be unlawful.

The specific details provided in a class description and booking confirmation will apply alongside these general terms.
